Accounting for a Cause

In Michele’s 19 years of accounting experience, she has worked with multiple nonprofit organizations, first as an auditor, then as a consultant, with a 7-year stint in internal accounting prior to returning to consulting. During this time, she has worked to prepare and/or oversee monthly accounting system closes, including balance sheet reconciliations, assist in developing annual budgets, set up systems to track restricted funding, manage cash flow, and prepare cash flow and budget projections.

In addition, Michele has handled a wide variety of duties, including preparing year-end audit support schedules, supervising and coaching a team of accountants, developing and leading training sessions on expense policies, budget analysis, and purchasing software, and improving efficiencies for accounting processes and procedures. She has a sound understanding of GAAP, an advanced knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Michele has a heart for the community and for the nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to support the members of the community.  Of her 19 years of accounting experience, 18 years have been focused solely on working for or with nonprofit organizations.  Michele is honored to use her expertise to free up the time of nonprofit leadership and program staff, allowing them to focus on their missions.

Michele graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Financial Economics and a Certificate in Accounting from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and has completed several graduate-level accounting courses at Rutgers University. In her downtime, she enjoys writing and spending time with friends and family. She will challenge anyone to a game of Spot It!®.
